Came across this after fixing the exact same unit. Tips for anybody…center brass screw may be rotted….either drill out or hit with PB blaster and vice grips. Secondly, cup to retain the washer may crumble…perfectly fine to dremel flat and matchup washer OD…good to go!

That thermal camera hotspot looks suspiciously like the visible reflection off the floor bud. Before you go smashing foundations is all.

I was looking scam results and came across this video, just after I read the top google search result on thr subject and within 5 seconds It seemed familar once you showed the pipe. Realised that this video is by the same guy that had the other page. Nearly 10 years deep and it was the only real source speaking against softners...was just quirky, thought I would share. Whole thing seems like an easy sale to make people worry because they cant see it anyway. Thanks and have a nice life!

Let me save you some time: Yes, water softeners are a scam, and there is no reason to get one, no matter what any salesman tells you. -they do not “save your pipes”. Water softeners run high amounts of sodium through your pipes, so you are trading pipe blockage by sediments for pipe blockage by salt crystals. Your pipes are still clogged. -they are VERY bad for your long-term health. Up until the moment you realize you just got a mouthful of salt water out of your sink/fridge you have been drinking high sodium water. You’re speeding up a heart attack/stroke and other serious health issues but hey, at least your pipes “aren’t clogged”. -as an extension of the last point, every time this “salt runaway” happens, it ruins your refrigerator water filter. And this will happen without warning. -you will lose water pressure, no matter how hard a salesman tries to assure you you won’t. -having a water softener is a part time job. It needs constant maintenance (like weekly) to make sure it isn’t gonna go off the rails and dump tons of sodium into your water. -an outdoor water softener adds extra external pipes that will burst during a freeze, leaving you without water for days or longer. Yes, this has happened to us. The original company ghosted us so we had to pay a 3rd party to come fix it. $200 unplanned bill. I tried to do it myself but couldn’t get the proprietary parts. -the high sodium content changes the chemical properties of your faucet water to the point that soap no longer creates non-polar association regions. Again in English: water softener water does not wash soap off. This isn’t “just a cleaner feeling” that a salesman tells you it is. I have rinsed repeatedly only to watch the same soap bubbles swirl around on my hands. The outcome was many dry and irritated bodily skin regions due to dried soap patches I could not get off. You have been warned. Water softeners are devices that exist for the sake of existing, and do not fill a need. Save the thousands of dollars and years of frustration. It was a mistake and we are currently looking into cost-effective ways to have ours removed.

just saw another video where the professional "leak detector" the insurance company sent out got it wrong and the plumber had to cut two holes. Another one where a plumber got it wrong and cut a huge hole into the nice living room floor only to eventually dig under the wall and find the leak under the floor inside a closet opposite the wall.. I pays to hire a pro with the right equipment.

I found a big hotspot in my bathroom 2 days ago. Water spigot turn hot right away. Do you think this is a DIY job? I don't want to dig. I just want to bypass it like we did with the outside cold galvanized water pipe that bursted 7 years ago underground.

Thank you Brother! This is the 2nd time your video has helped me to fix a leaky spigot. We just needed to buy that small $3 stem washer & it was fixed! To fix it, I took off the stem & brought it in to Home Depot, to make sure the washer fit. Thanks again!
